Arabesque pose

A fundamental ballet pose in which the dancer, balanced on one straight or demi-plié leg, extends the other leg straight behind at a right angle. The shoulders remain square and the arms prolong the line of the body, creating a taut diagonal from fingertips to toes. This emblematic figure structures the classical ballets proposed to palace guests, recurring as one of the signature shapes of the danced repertoire.
