The Aviation refers to a gin cocktail enhanced with maraschino liqueur, lemon juice and a touch of crème de violette, whose pale hue evokes the sky. Its recipe appears in Hugo Ensslin's compendium Recipes for Mixed Drinks, published in 1916. Rediscovered during the cocktail renaissance of the 2000s, it features among the classics of the International Bartenders Association manual.
