Carbon offset booking

An option built into a hotel booking that lets the guest pay to offset the carbon emissions of their stay (heating, cooling, transport, food) by funding certified carbon-sequestration projects (reforestation, capture, regenerative agriculture). Booking.com launched its Sustainable Travel module in 2022, Accor introduced ALL Plant for the Planet the same year. Quality standards (Gold Standard, Verra VCS, Plan Vivo) are supposed to guarantee that the project would not have happened anyway and that the carbon is really stored. A major 2023 investigation by the Guardian and Corporate Accountability found that 90 percent of Verra rainforest credits represented phantom carbon with no real climate effect, denting trust.
