Chhatri

A domed pavilion supported by columns, characteristic of the Rajput and Mughal architecture of northern India. The Hindi word chhatri means umbrella or tent, and the element symbolises honour and prestige. Refined under Shah Jahan in white marble, the chhatri crowns domes and marks structural transitions on forts and palaces. It defines the silhouette of Rajasthani palace hotels, punctuating their rooflines with elegant, recognisable cupolas.
