Climbing skins

Adhesive strips fixed beneath the skis in ski touring, their directional fibres allowing the ski to glide forward while gripping to prevent backward slipping during the climb. Historically made from sealskin, they are now produced in mohair or synthetic fibre. Essential to the ascent, they are removed at the summit.
