Cork seepage

Cork seepage refers to traces of wine that have oozed along the cork up beneath the capsule of a stored bottle. It signals a failure of the seal, often caused by a thermal shock that expanded the wine and forced a path past the cork. On an old wine, slight seepage stays tolerable, but heavy seepage raises the fear of oxidation. This sign is checked by removing the capsule before buying an old vintage.
