Cottage estate

A cottage estate refers to a stand-alone accommodation separated from the main building, integrated within a resort estate and designed as an autonomous house with sitting room, primary bedroom, additional bedrooms and porch. The format took shape on the East Coast between 1880 and 1930, when wealthy families came to spend the summer season and demanded privacy and dedicated staff. Today the ultra-luxury cottage estate spans 90 to 350 square metres, comes with its own private pool on some properties, and is marketed as an alternative to suites for extended families or friend circles. A lesser-known feature : a single cottage can represent 30 % of a resort's turnover when bookable on full-exclusive basis, as at Blackberry Farm in Tennessee.
