Decanting machine
The decanting machine, or mechanical aerator, speeds a wine's opening by drawing it through a chamber where it mixes intensely with air during the pour. Some electric models tilt the bottle and control the flow to reproduce a steady decant. The aim is to achieve in a few seconds the softening that conventional decanting takes minutes to deliver. The process suits young, closed reds best, and works far less well on delicate, mature cellared wines.
