Drinking window

The drinking window is the period during which a wine drinks at its best, bracketing its peak maturity. Critics often express it as a range of years, for example 2028 to 2040. Opening a bottle earlier may reveal an austere wine; opening it later risks a tired one. The window remains indicative, since each bottle evolves according to its own storage and the vagaries of its cork.
