Fluorescence

Emission of light, most often blue, by certain diamonds exposed to ultraviolet rays. The phenomenon is graded from none to very strong on gemmological certificates. Faint or medium fluorescence rarely affects a stone's appearance, whereas strong fluorescence can lend a milky look. Its influence on price is debated among dealers and palace jewellers, since perception varies with lighting and individual taste.
