Georgian wine tourism

Premium tourism built around Georgia's wine heritage in the Caucasus, with archaeological evidence dating winemaking here to 6000 BCE at the Gadachrili Gora site, making it the world's oldest wine country. The traditional qvevri method (fermenting wine in clay jars buried in the ground) has been on UNESCO's Intangible Heritage list since 2013. Premium winery hotels cluster in Kakheti: Château Mère Telavi, Schuchmann Wines (German-owned), Lopota Lake Resort and Twins Wine Cellar. Signature grape varieties are Saperavi (red), Rkatsiteli (white) and Mtsvane. A 4-night wine stay with guided tastings runs EUR 1,200 to 3,000 per person. Georgia recorded 7.4 million visitors in 2024, up 18 percent year on year.
