Green Globe Certification
Green Globe is an international sustainability certification program created in 1992 following the Rio Earth Summit. Now based in Los Angeles and GSTC accredited. It covers hotels, events, attractions, and cruises. The audit uses 44 criteria and 380 indicators, certification is valid for one year with annual re-audit. Recognition tiers run Certified, Gold (5 consecutive years), and Platinum (10 years). For travelers, Green Globe is well established in Europe and Latin America, complementary to EarthCheck's Asia-Pacific strength. Notable certified hotels include Hôtel Tritone Lipari, Riffelalp Resort Zermatt, and several Hilton and Accor properties. The label is especially strong in B2B and MICE travel, often required in corporate RFPs.
