Hatha vs Vinyasa vs Ashtanga yoga
These three popular yoga styles differ significantly in pace and intensity. Hatha yoga is slower and more static, postures (asanas) are held for several breaths, with longer rests between. Good for beginners, people with injuries, or anyone wanting a gentler practice. Vinyasa yoga is dynamic and flowing, each movement is linked to a breath, creating a continuous, dance-like sequence. Classes vary daily based on the teacher. Faster-paced and more cardio-intensive than Hatha. Ashtanga yoga is intense and disciplined, practitioners follow a set sequence of postures (the Primary Series takes about 90 minutes) practiced six mornings a week. Demanding both physically and mentally. At wellness resorts, check the schedule: morning Vinyasa or Ashtanga for energy, evening Hatha for relaxation. Bring or rent a mat, most luxury properties provide them.
