Joglo

A joglo is the grand traditional Javanese house, recognizable by four massive central teak pillars and a high, almost cathedral-like pyramid ceiling made of nested wooden beams. In Indonesia it was historically the home of aristocrats. Today luxury hotels in Bali (Bambu Indah is the famous example) buy old joglo houses from Java, take them apart piece by piece, ship them across the strait and rebuild them as villas. You sleep under 150-year-old teak that's been polished by generations. The structures cost more than building new, but they're the kind of detail that justifies $3,000-a-night rates, you're not staying in a hotel, you're staying inside a piece of moved heritage.
