Links course
The oldest style of golf course, born in Scotland and laid out on sandy, undulating coastal ground between the beach and arable farmland. Its firm turf, dunes, indigenous grasses such as marram and exposure to sea winds make for a demanding game suited to the run-up shot. The word derives from the Old English hlinc, meaning rising ground. Seaside golf resorts cultivate the authenticity of links play to attract purists of the game.
