Lost-wax casting

Ancient casting process allowing a model shaped in wax to be reproduced in metal. The model is coated in a refractory mould, the wax melted and drained, then molten metal poured into the vacated cavity. The technique renders the finest details. Used since antiquity, it remains central to the manufacture of complex mounts in palace high jewellery workshops and their bespoke commissions.
