Maceration (perfume)

A resting period during which the fragrance concentrate, blended with alcohol and water, matures before filtration and bottling. Maceration lets the materials, fixatives and solvents interact, refining and harmonising the fragrance much as a wine ages. A key quality step, it sets apart the carefully made compositions of demanding perfume houses.
