Magnum effect

The magnum effect describes the slower, more harmonious ageing of a wine kept in a magnum, a bottle holding one and a half litres. The ratio between the volume of wine and the small exchange surface beneath the cork slows oxidation. For the same vintage, a wine in magnum evolves with greater finesse and longevity than a standard seventy-five centilitre bottle. The format is especially prized for wines destined for long cellaring.
