Magnum service
Magnum service concerns bottles of 1.5 litres, equal to two standard bottles. This format ages more slowly because the ratio of neck oxygen to wine volume is lower, which preserves freshness and complexity over time. Its weight requires the sommelier to grip with both hands and pour with careful control. Favoured in Champagne and Bordeaux, the magnum suits large tables and cellared vintages meant for extended keeping.
