Margaux

Margaux is a communal appellation of the Médoc, on the left bank of the Gironde, the most southerly of the great Médoc appellations. It holds the first growth Château Margaux, ranked in 1855. Cabernet sauvignon dominates, complemented by merlot and petit verdot. Its fine, light gravel soils yield reds renowned for their finesse, floral bouquet and tannic elegance rather than for sheer power alone.
