Michelin Keys

['Michelin Hotel Keys', 'Michelin Hotel Rating']

The Michelin Keys system is the red guide's hotel rating, launched globally in 2024 then extended to the United States in April 2025 (Michelin Guide official, USA launch 2025). The method applies five criteria : architectural and design quality, individuality, service, price-quality balance, contribution to the sense of place. Three tiers exist : One Key, Two Keys, Three Keys. The first American selection covers 124 Key hotels, broken down as five Three Keys, thirty-three Two Keys and eighty-six One Key. Michelin inspectors are full-time salaried staff, travel incognito on a corporate account and sign a lifetime confidentiality clause. The programme is distinguished by its geographical readability : New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington and Miami concentrate 60 % of the Keys.
