Mohan Singh Oberoi

Mohan Singh Oberoi (1898-2002) founded the Indian hotel group bearing his name, starting with the 1934 purchase of Simla's Clarke's Hotel. Rising from a front desk clerk, he built The Oberoi Group, India's second-largest luxury chain, operated through EIH Limited. Living past a hundred, he pioneered a homegrown Indian luxury hospitality able to rival established Western brands.
