Old Fashioned

The Old Fashioned refers to one of the earliest codified cocktails, built around a base spirit (bourbon or rye), sugar, Angostura bitters and a citrus twist. Its recipe appears in the official manual of the International Bartenders Association among the enduring classics. Served over ice in a rocks glass, it embodies the original 1806 definition of a cocktail: spirit, sugar, water and bitters.
