Olfactory pyramid

A model structuring a fragrance into three successive evaporation layers: top notes, heart notes and base notes. Popularised in the early twentieth century by perfumer Jean Carles, the pyramid describes how a scent trail evolves over time after application. It serves as a reading grid for hotel signature scents and for the descriptions of palace fragranced amenities.
