Panchakarma
Panchakarma is Ayurveda's most intensive detoxification and rejuvenation program, literally meaning "five actions." It uses five purification techniques: therapeutic vomiting (Vamana), purgation (Virechana), medicated enemas (Basti), nasal oil administration (Nasya), and bloodletting (Raktamokshana, rarely practiced today). A full Panchakarma program takes 14-28 days and includes preparation, treatment, and recovery phases. What to expect at premium resorts (Ananda, Somatheeram, Kalari Kovilakom): an initial doctor consultation customizes your protocol, then daily oil massages, steam treatments, dietary restrictions (often only kitchari and herbal teas), early bedtimes, and limited screens. Many guests report deep emotional release and lasting energy changes. Cost: 200-2,000 EUR per night, all inclusive. Discuss any medications and health conditions thoroughly with the doctor before starting.
