Polishing
Final stage in the making of a jewel, in which the craftsman burnishes the metal surrounding the stones to reveal its lustre. Carried out after setting, polishing removes tool marks and gives the surface its definitive shine before delivery to the client. On a gem, the term also denotes the lapidary's lustring of the facets. It is the operation that completes a high jewellery piece.
