Polo mallet

The implement with which a polo player strikes the ball, also called a stick. It comprises a flexible cane shaft, usually made of Manau bamboo, and a hardwood head fixed at right angles. The mallet is always held in the right hand, left-handed play being banned in competition for safety. Polo clubs and equestrian resorts maintain sets of mallets in varying lengths to suit the height of different ponies.
