Putting green
The closely mown, carefully tended grass surface surrounding the hole, on which the golfer uses a putter to roll the ball. The speed and undulation of the green determine the difficulty of putting, measured by the stimpmeter. Its daily preparation, mowing, rolling and watering, occupies greenkeeping teams. Prestige golf resorts lavish particular care on their greens, whose condition does much to define the course's reputation among visiting players.
