Reflecting pool

A shallow, still body of water placed on the axis of an Islamic garden or courtyard to mirror the architecture and the sky. The reflecting pool visually extends facades, cools the air through evaporation and symbolises purity. A central element of the char bagh and palace courts, it structures the gardens of the Taj Mahal and inspires the water patios of Eastern and Mughal palace hotels, doubling the architecture in its surface.
