Resort village
A ski resort developed around a pre-existing authentic village, as opposed to purpose-built integrated resorts created from scratch at altitude. The resort village retains a historic core, traditional architecture and local life, a charm sought by an upmarket clientele. Gstaad, Megève and Kitzbühel are celebrated examples. Mountain palaces there benefit from a heritage setting and a village atmosphere quite distinct from large modern developments and their uniformity.
