Rye whiskey

Rye whiskey refers to a whiskey whose grain bill, in the United States, must contain at least fifty-one percent rye. That grain brings a spicy, peppery backbone, drier than the corn-led bourbon. Historically tied to the American northeast, it is the traditional base of classics such as the Manhattan, the Sazerac and the Vieux Carré, where its briskness stands up to vermouth and bitters.
