Treehouse villa

A treehouse villa is exactly what it sounds like, a luxury hotel room built up in the trees, 6 to 15 meters off the ground, supported by big tree trunks or freestanding stilts (so the trees themselves aren't damaged). Inside it's full hotel comfort: air conditioning, real bathroom, sometimes a hanging pool. The most famous ones: Soneva Kiri in Thailand (whose Treepod dining is winched up and down by a pulley with the waiter on a zipline), Keemala in Phuket, Bisate Lodge in Rwanda (where you go gorilla trekking), Lapa Rios in Costa Rica, the Treehotel in Sweden. Rates typically $800-$4,000 per night. The honest experience: you wake up at eye level with birds, monkeys or sloths, depending on where you are.
