Valley floor

The lower part of an alpine valley, where the resort village, accommodation and the departure points of the main lifts are often concentrated. The descent to the valley floor, the final return of the day, depends on snow cover at lower altitude. Mountain palaces set on the valley floor favour access to services, while those higher up bank on direct proximity to the pistes and commanding panoramic views over the peaks.
