Waldorf Astoria (New York)

The Waldorf Astoria is a New York hospitality institution whose original hotel opened on 13 March 1893 on Fifth Avenue, born of two hotels built side by side by feuding Astor relatives. Joined in 1897 by the Peacock Alley corridor, they then formed the largest hotel in the world. Demolished to make way for the Empire State Building, it was reborn in 1931 on Park Avenue in an Art Deco tower.
